History of The Maryland Retriever Club

The Maryland Retriever Club, Inc. was founded in 1945 by a group of five Chesapeake Bay Retriever owners for the purpose of developing and training all breeds of retrievers. Over the years, the club’s activities have grown region wide. The club put on its first picnic field trial in 1947, followed by an AKC sanctioned trial on May 2, 1948. Finally in November 1949, the held its first AKC licensed retriever field trial.

Since that time the club has expanded its activities to include two AKC licensed field trials and one AKC licensed hunt test each year. The MRC also sponsors retriever demonstrations and occasionally holds picnic trials. The MRC is affiliated with and is a member of the National Retriever Club, The National Amateur Club and the Master National Retriever Club.

The Maryland Retriever Club is proud to be the home club of the 1993 National Amateur Field Champion MD’s Cotton Pick’n Corpper.
